Prior to the actions of Alibaba and JD, Wal-Mart, a traditional retail giant in the United States, announced on September 20 this year that vapes in stores in the United States will be discontinued.
These actions stem from recent US government bans on the vape industry.
San Francisco announced a ban on vape sales in June this year, becoming the first city in the United States to issue an vape ban. On September 11, the White House announced that it would issue a sales ban on flavored vapes. The head of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on the same day that an initiative launched within a few weeks will remove the flavored vape from the market.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, on September 26, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that 805 cases of lung injury related to vape have been reported in many states across the country, of which 13 have been fatal.
Investigators are still not sure which vape product or which chemical is causing the lung disease. The CDC temporarily recommends that if you have concerns, you should consider avoiding vape products. In addition, no one should buy vape products from unofficial sources, or alter e-liquid ingredients or add unacceptable substances to them without authorization.
The Chinese government has also begun to introduce vape policies. On October 1, Shenzhen formally implemented the newly revised "Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Regulations on Smoking Control." vape is included in the tobacco control list, and outdoor non-smoking areas have been expanded. Bus stops and subway entrances are also non-smoking areas.
While implementing the vape suspension in the United States, Alibaba International said that it will continue to pay attention to relevant policy changes in various countries and make corresponding adjustments to platform control policies accordingly.
