Is vape an opened Pandora's box?
The original intention of vape research and development is that the harm of cigarettes is too great. In order to reduce the harm caused by smoking to the body, vape came into being. Without e-liquid and tar, the harm of vape is greatly reduced compared to cigarettes.
Although vape does not have the harmful components such as tar and suspended particles of traditional cigarettes, the nicotine content of some vapes exceeds the standard, and some are even much higher than ordinary cigarettes. However, vape cannot cut off smokers' dependence on nicotine, and it is difficult to completely solve the problem of smoking addiction.
The success of vape proves the possibility that vape can replace cigarettes, but vape also makes many people who were not smokers start to use vape because of its advantages. They do not use vape to reduce the harm of cigarettes, but simply like vape. Therefore, vape can not only reduce harm but also bring harm. While vape replaces cigarettes, it opens a new Pandora's box and brings new problems.
The structure of vape consists of four parts: battery, control system, oil storage system and atomization system. e-liquid is a vape consumable and plays a key role. E-liquid mainly contains: nicotine, vegetable glycerin and edible flavors. e-liquid atomizes e-liquid through the atomization system, and finally generates steam, simulating the real visual sense of puffing clouds when smoking.
Although vape does not have harmful components such as carbon monoxide, suspended particulates and incomplete combustion products of tobacco in traditional cigarettes, the smoke generated by vape atomization and heating is not "water vapor" as we think in common sense, but an aerosol-suspended The jelly formed by solids or liquids in gases forms a new source of air pollution. Among them, the atomization chamber may also bring some heavy metals into the production and perfusion process. The vape components that end up being inhaled by people may include: particulate matter, certain volatile organic compounds, certain heavy metals, and nicotine components. At the same time, although edible flavors can be eaten, whether it is safe to enter the lungs after aerosolization also requires further verification and research.
At present, the World Health Organization has clearly pointed out that vape is harmful to public health and is not recommended as a means of quitting smoking. A few years ago, the authoritative medical journal BMJ published a review on vape. The hazards of vape have been assessed to the effect of:
1. It took scientists more than ten years to figure out the relationship between traditional tobacco and lung diseases. At present, the scientific research of vape has only been done for about five years, and more time and "guinea pigs" are needed to verify the harm it produces.
2. It is still uncertain whether vape is healthier than traditional tobacco. Although it is better than traditional tobacco in some aspects, whether vape has less impact on respiratory health than traditional tobacco is not enough to determine based on current scientific research data.
3. Numerous epidemiological studies have shown an increase in respiratory symptoms among adolescent vape users. Numerous studies have shown that vape affects the entire lung, triggering genetic mutations in lung cells that create risks of lung damage and immunosuppression, such as increased susceptibility to bacterial or viral infections.
4. The ingredients in the e-liquid of the atomization chamber include: nicotine, vegetable glycerin and edible flavors, etc. All ingredients will have harmful effects on the human body at a certain concentration or above. However, due to the huge differences in vape consumption behavior, it is impossible to know the exact concentration of each ingredient that consumers are exposed to over a certain period of time.
The new Pandora's box has been opened, vape is not safe and harmless, non-smokers are not recommended to buy and use, we are eagerly waiting for what kind of change vape can bring.
