PV of DIY e liquid
One of the important elements of E liquid, PG, is a necessary raw material for e liquid. Generally speaking, PG refers to propylene glycol. However, the PG identified by the e liquid manufacturer on the product is not only propylene glycol, it contains the flavor. The PG mentioned in this article is only propylene glycol.
The PG content of commonly used DIY e liquid is about 20%, the PG ratio of high power vape will be lower, and the PG content of vape pen will be higher, but generally it will not exceed 40%.
Propylene glycol is a very widely used raw material that we can access almost every day in our daily lives. For example, cakes, hand sanitizers, lipsticks, etc., can find PG figures. The role of PG in e liquid is mainly to dissolve the essence, produce a certain throat sensation and dilute the e liquid viscosity. In general DIYe liquid, most of the PGs used are “Dow” food grade PGs, which are relatively safe and healthy to meet the “FDA” standards. However, many people are allergic to PG, and a large amount of inhalation of pure PG mist can cause adverse reactions to nausea, dizziness, and vomiting, which can be life-threatening. Therefore, there is no e liquid of "pure PG" component.
A brief introduction to the role of propylene glycol can be found on Wikipedia: propylene glycol is also used as a humectant, solvent and preservative in food and tobacco products, and is also one of the main components of e-liquid. In evaporators used to deliver pharmaceutical or personal care products, the evaporated components typically contain propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is also used as a multi-drug solvent, including oral, injection and topical applications.
From this we can know that the role of PG is only as a dissolution, so the proportion of PG added is to refer to the ratio of VG, flavor and nicotine, and even the type of flavor. Because they directly affect the needs of PG, how many PGs are needed to completely dissolve them, are determined by VG, flavor and nicotine.
Before making e liquid, the first parameter to be determined is the ratio of PG to VG. PG is too high, e liquid tastes more exciting, tastes better. However, the proportion of PG is too high, in addition to the small amount of smoke, it can also cause sore throat, dizziness and other symptoms. If the VG content is too high, the smoke will become larger, but the liquidity of the e liquid will also be worse, which is not conducive to the oil guide, and will corrode the acrylic warehouse. Generally, the "pure VG" e liquid is mostly used for large smoke drops. So the correct "PG ratio" will balance the amount of smoke and the taste of the e liquid.
Finally, we can be sure that the proportion of PG depends entirely on the number or type of VG, flavor and nicotine. We do not need to cure the PG ratio and use it flexibly. Too many PGs will only have the opposite effect.
