Texas considers amending the city's smoking regulations to include electronic cigarettes
According to KTRE, the city of Nacodochs, Texas is considering modifying the city's smoking regulations to include vapes.
In 2008, smoking was prohibited in public places and workplaces in eastern Texas. If the proposed amendment is passed by the City Council on February 19, the use of electronic equipment “as a means of reducing the risk of secondhand smoke” will be banned.
Barton, director of the Nacodoch Health Alliance, discussed why vapes were excluded from the original smoking regulations of 2008.
"At the time, vapes were not the most important. There was no research on vapes. There are many unknowns about vapes. We don't know the impact of vapes. If vapes are a good smoking cessation tool, we will follow It is removed from the bill. If vapes become a problem, we need to add it to the statute."
Barton said, "e-liquid contains nicotine, so vape products are considered to be tobacco products, so adding vape equipment to the current law will make the bill more complete."
Bob Holloway, the owner of the steam trail, admits that he will no longer use cigarettes for vapes. "I have been smoking for 46 years. When I first started using vapes, I was very reluctant. But in fact it satisfies my needs, so I have successfully quit smoking for 7 years."
Holloway wants to see more voices and wise decisions. "I mean, it doesn't bother me, but I think we need more advice than one-sided. Vapes can help you get rid of cigarettes and reduce your nicotine intake, and it's very successful."
The Nakodochs City Council will hear the motion submitted by the Healthy Nakodochs Alliance at 5:30 pm on February 19.
