Trump to meet vape industry representatives
On November 12, Beijing time, US President Trump said on Monday that he would meet with representatives of the vape industry to resolve the current "vape dilemma".
Trump also said on social media that children's health and safety and related industry work will be the focus of discussions at the meeting.
The Trump administration said in September that it would make a ban on the sale of flavored vape (including e-liquid) products, but was strongly opposed by the vape industry and vape advocates. They said the ban would cost many people job opportunities and deprive those who use the product of alternative cigarettes.
Public health experts have been urging the government to ban flavored vapes (including e-liquids) for years, and warned that vapes have set off years of efforts to reduce youth smoking rates.
Trump said on Friday that this week ’s final decision on vape products will raise the minimum age requirement to buy vape from 18 to around 21.
The vape giant Juul previously announced that it will immediately stop selling mint-flavored vape or e-liquid in the United States, as new signs point to the growing popularity of such products among U.S. teens.
